adventures in tandem nursingOne Mom shared her experience with tandem nursing:
"I didn't really plan on tandem nursing, but when I got pregnant with my second child, my oldest was still nursing frequently. I was very ill with morning sickness and my son was very active, but he would settle down to nurse several times a day and I could get some much needed rest. I don't know what I would have done if he had not still been nursing. Breastfeeding made it much easier to get him to nap every day and calmed him down when he was hurt or upset.
I have to admit that at times it was challenging, for instance when I experienced some nipple soreness during my second trimester, but the benefits continued to outweigh any negatives. During my third trimester I found it necessary to wean my son at night because I simply had to get uninterrupted sleep in those final weeks. He accepted some "Daddy nursing" instead. My husband would cuddle him back to sleep and he was fine with this arrangement.
When the baby was born, my oldest had absolutely no problems adjusting. He never showed signs of jealousy and was very attached to the baby right away. He seemed to understand that the baby needed priority, and didn't resent this new little person's place in my lap. It worked out very well and I went on to tandem nurse my next two children."
