What is the best nursing bra? Is there any such thing? Honestly, probably not. While there are some things you should avoid in a nursing bra, the best bra is the one that works for you, is comfortable and supportive and that you like.

Here are some tips on choosing the best nursing bra for your needs

Get sized properly. If you don't know your bra size, get help from one of the nicer department stores or a maternity shop. While a lot of sources will tell you to buy your nursing bras during your final trimester of pregnancy, it's not uncommon for your bra size to go up a cup or two after your milk supply "comes in", or increases postpartum. Sometimes your rib cage will be smaller after you deliver also, meaning that your bras that you bought won't fit well. If you want to prepare ahead, then choose a bra that is one rib cage size larger than your prepregnancy size, and one cup size larger than your largest pregnancy size. Confused now? Then go for a brand like the Bravado nursing bra, which doesn't have strict sizing but is stretchy enough to accomodate a range of sizes.

To underwire or not to underwire. Some women just aren't comfortable without an underwire in their bras, but I can't recommend underwire bras for nursing Moms because I've seen how they can contribute to plugged milk ducts. You can try a bra with an underwire "alternative", but I recommend a softcup style. Nowadays you can find pretty nursing bras in softcup styles, so why not?

Nightime bras. Personally I think it's best to not wear a bra at night. I don't have any hard data on this, but I think that the breast tissue needs to be "free" for at least some of the day. But if you're the type that leaks a lot and will wake up soaked, go for a soft, stretchy nighttime bra that will hold your nursing pads.

Don't forget style. Just because you're nursing doesn't mean you need to look like Grandma! There are so many beautiful nursing bra styles to choose from now. A variety of colors, fabrics, lace, even racy or sexy styles await you. Find a bra you won't be afraid to show off at the next family reunion. Just kidding. ;)
