Baking Soda for Yeast in Nipples
Yeast infections are not uncommon among breastfeeding women. Due to the moistness nursing moms experience due to leakage, baby’s wet mouth, and warmth in a bra, it creates the perfect environment for yeast to thrive.
It can be tough to keep your breasts dry especially if you experience a lot of leakage and cannot keep up with changing nursing pads. Make sure you use cloth nursing pads instead of the plastic backed disposable varieties.
If you come down with a yeast infection on your nipples, you can often treat it by using a natural remedy, baking soda.
Creating a natural remedy for thrush on the nipples is quite simple with baking soda. All you have to do is take some baking soda and create a paste with water. Place the paste on your nipples frequently throughout the day.
The baking soda creates an inhospitable environment for yeast to thrive due to its mildly alkaline ph. You can place a nursing pad on top of the paste, if you choose, but it won’t hurt your bras if you decide not to.
Another benefit of using baking soda is that it is safe for baby. When you nurse, simply rinse or wipe the baking soda off and you are ready to go.
