Breastfeeding in a Sling
Using a sling when you’re breastfeeding can provide a lot of convenience for you and comfort for baby. Wearing baby in a sling gives her the sensation of closeness while freeing your hands to go about your daily tasks. The movements of your body can be calming for your little one, much like the way she felt you move when inside your womb.
When it’s time to nurse, most slings are very versatile and will allow for nursing without removing baby from her cocoon. Many slings are shaped so that you can move the top layer over your breast after baby latches on for an added measure of privacy. You could be walking around the grocery store nursing and noone would be the wiser. A sling also helps if you have a high needs baby or a premie. These babies need to breastfeed frequently and may also have reflux issues. A sling can help keep baby upright, and when they’re next to your body they often have some relief from their tummy trouble.
The easiest kind of sling to use for breastfeeding is a ring style sling. Ring slings make it easy to adjust both “rails” of the sling independently. The Maya Wrap is a favorite of many breastfeeding moms.
A sling can both simplify and enrich your breastfeeding experience.
