Nursing Chair

Breastfeeding is about more than just nutrition.

It’s a chance to curl up with your little one, have skin-to-skin contact, and do something you don’t do enough of—relax.

And it doesn’t get much better than unwinding and feeding your baby in a specially designed nursing chair.

Nursing Chair

A nursing chair can be a chair you personally set up for nursing or it can be a chair specifically made for breastfeeding mothers.

For instance, your nursing chair may have a footrest, nursing pillows, magazines, and a table with a glass of water nearby. A lot of moms find much value in setting up a “nursing station” around their chair with a cordless phone nearby, snacks, a beverage, maybe a book to read.

After all, you spend a lot of time in the early days and weeks of your baby’s life nursing so you might as well keep these items conveniently nearby!

A manufactured nursing chair usually has built-in arm rests, is ergonomic, and is pleasantly plush. Many nursing chairs double as rocking chairs to help sway your baby to sleep. Nursing chairs are built to ease muscle tension associated with breastfeeding.

A design student in the U.K. made a prototype nursing chair with padded wings for privacy, a footrest, low armrests, a wide seat, and a side table. The chair looks hip, modern, and very cool. Who knows—maybe in a few years you’ll see this chair in public establishments. We can only hope…

In the meantime, the nursing gliders are very popular among moms.
